December 2007

The Scholarship committee is now accepting applications for 2007 scholarships. All applications must be postmarked not later than February 28th 2007. The Topic for scholarship applicants for 2007 is; What effect has The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) had on both Union and non-union workers verses  the intent of what it should achieve? What is your opinion of the outlook for union workers in the event of future free trade acts? To download an application please use the link on our homepage.

June 2006

The Skilled Trades will hold it’s first ever Tigers Baseball outing Saturday July 15th. Tickets are $25 and are limited to members only. There will only be 55 seats available so tickets will be limited to 1 per member and will go on sale at the June membership meeting. The Bus will depart from Chrysler Arena parking lot at 5:00p.m. Food and beverages will be included.

Congratulation to our 7 scholarship winners. The $500 checks will be awarded at the membership meeting this month. This years winners are Matthew Gerardi, Kristin Booth, Heather Watkins, Maureen Hackbarth, Mary, Cronley, Nathan Clark, and Neil Scherdt.

December 2005

The Scholarship committee is now accepting applications for 2006 scholarships. All applications must be postmarked not later than February 28th 2006. The essay topic will be; Please describe how you feel the Davis Bacon Act of 1931 Benefited the average worker (with emphasis on union employee's) throughout the years to present. Congratulations to this years UMSTU scholarship recipients! $500.00 awards were given to Andy Przybylski, Nicole Vail, Sarah Scherdt, Andrew Way, Jessica Curts, and Kristin Booth. These awards were made possible through the fundraising efforts of our scholarship committee. Special thanks go out to Don Aikins and Ed Ptaszynski for all their hard work.

It’s hunting season again. That means it’s time for our annual Big Buck contest. Send your pictures with as much information as possible to ken@uofmskilledtrades.org. Your deer can be taken with either a gun or a bow (or car). The contest winners will be announced at the January membership meeting.

January 2005

The scholarship committee is now taking applications for 2005 scholarships. All applicants must submit a 500 word essay along with their application. The topic for scholarship applicants for 2005 will be "Describe in your own words how a union has affected or improved your family life."
