General Membership Meeting Minutes
May 27, 2010


The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm with 27 members present.

 The minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.

 The treasurer’s report was suspended via a motion.

 All officers except Nelson Amerheim were present.

 Recognition of new members –   There wee no new embers worn in.

   Reports of accidents sickness and death –
   
It was reported that:

  • Tom Clements father passed away.
  • Bernie Rolo mother passed away.
  • Mike McCully passed  away (former  tradesman)
  • Terry Johnson is in the Hospital.

Presidents Report –

The presidents Grievance summary is as follows –


  • Sick time harassment and writtne reprimand heard on  4/26.
  • 2 termination grievances head 5/20.
  • Extended Sick and FMLA scheduled for 5/21 being rescheduled.
  • OT contract vendor Housing ( settled)
  • OT contract vendor in Construction services (filed).
  • Termination (filed)

Arbitration summary –


  • Pay issue (working out of classification) April 23.  (Settled)
  • Temporary working overtime heard on April 21. ( Denied).
  • Sick time issues being scheduled.
  • Maintneance Mechanics doing Trades work scheduled  for June 14.
  • Doctors note requirement June 21.
  • Extended sick time harassment June 28.
  • Sick time ULP scheduled for August 4.

Other Business under the president’s report-


  • Plant reorganizatoin meetings with Plant-op team.  Transfer and overtime are main issures being discussed.
  • Region foreman will be Joel Foose, Doug Good, and Eric Bovine.  Jim Vibbart will be interim manager.
  • Ken reported there is a Senate Reforms and Restructuring Committee passed Senate Joint Resolution U, a proposed constitutioal  amendment to cut the pay of all public employees by 5 percent along with a three-year wage freeze.  This will affect us if this passes.
  • Benefits eligibility forms due date has been extended to May 28.

Committee reports –

  • Scholarship committee – next month presentation for scholarship awards.
  • Safety Committee – didn't have anything to report.
  • Apprenticeship committee – din't have anything to report.
  • By-laws Committee- reviewing the bylaws and determining things that need updating or cleaned up.

Unfinished Business –

  • There was no unfinished business to discuss.

New Business –

  • It was suggested that the trades will be working along with maintenance mechanics what is the Union's position?  The Union will be doing everything to stop this.
  • Motion on the floor for a trip to tiger's game outing.  54 tickets scheduled for August 21 game, each members ticket is $25.00.  We are looking for a donation from the union of $4,500.  The motion was seconded, the motion passed.
  • There was an amendment to the motion to add $5.00 per ticket to go to the scholarship fund.  Making the price $30.00 per ticket.  The motion was seconded and the motion passed.
  • A motion to donate $250.00 for the youth 12 travel baseball team of Pinckney/Hamburg baseball association.  There will be a banner wth the U of M Skilled Trades Union logo on it.  The motion was seconded and the motion passed.
  • Richards Brothers may not be paying revailing wages.  Ken will look into this.
  • Three employees have been terminated.  Well above the Unions average so be careful.  Be where you are supose to be and spread the word.

Good of the union –

The jacket drawing was held and number 297 James McCloud wasn’t present so $20.00 more goes into the pocket.

 

  • Retirements:  Larry Miller - telecom reitred.  We will be sending him a watch.
  • Apprenticeship: Kevin Kelly and Dusty Bennent were excused.

   
 Adjournment –

 The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 pm.
