General Membership Meeting Minutes
August 27, 2009


The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm with 45 members present.

The minutes from the previous meeting were read and accepted.

Keith and Marty from staff benefits were at the meeting to discuss the upcoming benefits audit and answer any questions members may have regarding eligibility and questions about the amnesty period. 7-8 million dollars recovery is anticipated.

The treasurer’s report was suspended via a motion.

All officers were present.

Recognition of new members

There were no new members sworn in.

Reports of accidents sickness and death –

It was reported that

  • Al Culbreth mother died
  • Charlie Jewel had a motorcycle accident.

  Presidents Report –

The presidents Grievance summary is as follows –

  • Written warning. Heard 8/5
  • Contractor working overtime. Heard 8/27.
  • Unit clarification being filed with MERC. IUOE HVAC positions at Pfizer building.
  • Special conference to discuss CP painter conflict of interest. UM claims no conflict of interest. Ken will respond accordingly.

Arbitration summary –

  • 2 day DLO scheduled 10/22 .
  • Pay issue (working out of classification) heard 6/11. Denied
  • Transfer filed. (Article 22) heard 7/23 Denied. Scheduled 10/20 working on a resolution.
  • Payroll issues heard 5/01/09 submitted.
  • Written warning (safety) scheduled December 11.

Other Business under the president’s report-

  • Plant lead team to meet with the Stewards at the Stewards meeting in October.
  • Be careful where you are parked. People have been sending e-mails. Management is out looking too.
  • OT committee working on overtime program. Close to completion. This will be bargaining unit wide.

   Committee reports –

  • Scholarship committee – nothing to report
  • Safety Committee -
  • Apprenticeship committee – John Miller excused. He is working OT.

    Unfinished Business –

  •  26 tickets are available for the tiger game.

New Business –

  •  There was a motion to purchase 2 new laptops for the president and vice president not to exceed $2500.00 The motion was seconded the motion carried.
  • It was reported that south campus maintenance mechanics doing electrical work. They are working on 277 volts hot.

Good of the union –
The jacket drawing was held and number 381 Mark Rickleman wasn’t present so $20.00 more goes into the pocket.

Adjournment –The meeting was adjourned at 5:27 pm.
